The environment
Plastics and the plastics industry have an important role to play in sustainable development, and Primo welcomes the growing requirements for sound environmental management. We have been certified to environmental standard ISO 14001 since 2000.
This certification sends a strong signal to regulatory authorities, customers and consumers that Primo takes responsibility for the all environmental considerations linked to the production and use of its products.
Primo has become increasingly involved in production carried out by our joint-venture partners, and in society's consumption and disposal of plastics as a whole. This applies especially to the areas where our products are used.
Our environmental commitment is expressed through:
- Environmental certification in our production units
- Participation in collection & recycling schemes
- Other activities aimed at improving the environment
Production
Any form of production affects the surrounding environment. Our aim is to limit all forms of adverse impact. Primo has:
- Developed environmentally-friendly PVC raw materials
- Optimised production technology (extruders)
- Adopted groundwater cooling (freon-free)
- Initiated waste sorting & management
- Trained staff in environmental management
- Earned environmental certifications
- Initiated recycling of internal plastic waste
- Initiated treatment of plant cooling water for reuse in closed loops
Products
With its long lifetime and virtually maintenance-free properties, plastic is a superb material. However, we must consider the impact that our products have on the surrounding environment "from cradle to grave."
Primo has become a pioneering company, and driving force, in the development of plastic products that take the environment into consideration as much as possible in production, use and disposal.
- Use of return packaging where possible
- Development of products with 100% recycled raw materials
- Systematic collection and sorting of waste from external production
- Waste collection schemes for discarded plastic building components, etc.

Bureau Veritas Certification is an independent entity that monitors Primo's environmental management system every half-year by reviewing environmental performance and conducting tests. This helps ensure that Primo continues to live up to all the demands implied by our certification to ISO 14001.

Primo is a co-founder and co-owner of WUPPI A/S, whose purpose is to organise and promote the collection and reprocessing of building products in Denmark made of hard PVC.
